About Koda Maxon
Koda Maxon is a vibrant Canadian Vocalist, Artist and Composer, who completed their Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance (Voice) in 2022 and a Master's in Composition at Brandon University in 2024. They have studied composition in the past with Dr. Peter Meechan, Melody McKiver and Dr. Jason Young. Koda is a studio instructor for the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory, teaching Voice and Composition for all ages and Music rudimentaries for kids.
Koda grew up studying classical voice and piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. At the age of 15, they combined their passions for travel and music when they performed a selection of choral works and solo performances in the Vatican. The next year they traveled to Ireland, on a performance tour of Dublin, and Belfast in the Rollo Dilworth Music Festival. Koda's creative studies brought them to live in Finland for a year as an exchange student. While living abroad they focused on language, music, arts and connecting to the community. Koda has performed and taught across numerous countries including Canada, Finland, Ireland, Mexico and Italy.
As a diverse performer, Koda’s musical explorations can be described as eclectic and experimental, while their repertoire experience ranges from Baroque to Contemporary. However Koda does not limit music to one idea or genre, instead their goal is to allow people to think and experience through the art and experience of sound. Their compositional works and vocal performances focus on contemporary techniques and the use of multimedia to explore topics of identity, nature, and connectivity. Vocally, Koda has been a performer in a range of fields including Jazz, musical theatre, opera, r&b, electronic music, hip-hop and metal. In 2025, Koda has studied and performed many musical theatre solos through drag performances with live vocals as they rediscover their love for Stage dance, as seen at their set at Brandon’s Pride in the Park where they contributed queer renditions of timeless musical theatre melodies.
Koda’s goal as a composer, educator and musician is to explore the art of sound through the creation of sonic works that allow both the listener and musician to open up, think deeply, and see the world from a different point of view. They find inspiration in topics of intense emotions, their relationship to nature, spirituality, mythology and queer Identity. Koda is a playful composer who loves to explore new harmonies and extended techniques. Every project they do always has a bit of magic and a bit of camp.
I’m also in a duo…..
Transfixed is an experimental queer music duo comprising Koda Maxon (they/them) and Nora Wilson (she/her). Through the weaving of electronically generated and altered sounds, vocals, and trombone, we create visceral sonic tapestries portraying our lived experiences as gender diverse people. We invite audiences to sit with not only the violence and discrimination we often face, but also the beauty and serenity of authenticity amplified through defiant acceptance of self. Our work focuses on both visual and sonic elements to create a spiritual and emotional experience. Transfixed recently toured Western Canada, and is in development of their first Studio Album with Winnipeg based producer Lana Winterhault.
